Adrian Jamal McPherson (born May 8, 1983) is an American former professional football quarterback. He was chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL draft. McPherson played college football at Florida State before leaving the team in 2002. He also played for many teams in the Arena Football League (AFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the National Arena League (NAL).

Adrian McPherson's Early Life and Talents

Adrian McPherson grew up in Bradenton, Florida. He was an amazing athlete in high school. At Southeast High School, he became the first person in Florida history to win both the Florida Mr. Basketball and Mr. Football Florida awards.

As a senior, he was named Gatorade Florida Football Player of the season. He passed for 3,728 yards and 42 touchdowns. He also ran for 765 yards and 10 touchdowns. Besides football and basketball, he played third base for his baseball team. His baseball team even won a state championship in 2002.

College Football Journey

McPherson played for Florida State University for two seasons (2001–2002). In his first year (2001), he played in nine games. He completed 23 of 37 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns.

In his second year (2002), McPherson started four games. He completed 80 of 156 passes for 1,017 yards. He also threw 12 touchdowns and rushed for 180 yards. McPherson left the football team in November 2002 due to off-field issues. He later resolved these issues and moved on.

Adrian McPherson's Professional Career

McPherson began his professional football career in 2004. He played for several teams across different leagues.

Arena Football League Debut

McPherson decided to play in the Arena Football League (AFL). He signed with the Indiana Firebirds in 2004. In his first season, he threw for 61 touchdowns and ran for 19 more. He was named the 2004 AFL Rookie of the Year for his great performance.

Time with the New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints picked McPherson in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL draft. He played in some preseason games for the Saints. The team hoped he would become their starting quarterback. However, the Saints later signed Drew Brees, who became a star player.

In 2006, McPherson was involved in an unusual incident. He was hit by a golf cart driven by the Tennessee Titans mascot during a preseason game. He was released by the Saints in September 2006 after this incident.

Playing for Utah and Austin

Before joining the Saints, McPherson was acquired by the new Utah Blaze team in the AFL. After his time with the Saints, he was traded to the Austin Wranglers in 2006.

Grand Rapids Rampage Experience

In 2007, McPherson signed with the Grand Rapids Rampage. He played as a backup quarterback. That season, he completed 76 passes for 819 yards and nine touchdowns. He was released by the team in April 2008.

Success in the CFL with Montreal

In May 2008, McPherson joined the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played his first CFL game on June 12, 2008. He spent five seasons as a backup quarterback for the Alouettes. During this time, he helped the team win two Grey Cup championships in 2009 and 2010. He was released in 2013 to explore other team offers.

Return to the Arena Football League

On February 19, 2013, McPherson signed with the Tampa Bay Storm. On May 10, 2013, he set a new AFL record. He broke the record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season. His season ended early due to a leg injury.

More CFL and AFL Teams

In January 2014, McPherson signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. Later that year, in October, he was assigned to the Los Angeles KISS in the AFL.

After recovering from an injury, McPherson joined the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL on June 13, 2015. He was released by the Argonauts in June 2016. He was re-signed briefly in July but released again in August 2016.

His last known team was the Jacksonville Sharks. He signed with them in April 2018 but was released in July 2018.
