Adrian Jamal McPherson (born May 8, 1983) is a former professional football player from America. He played as a quarterback in two major leagues: the Arena Football League (AFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Before becoming a professional, he played college football at Florida State University. The New Orleans Saints chose him in the 2005 NFL draft.

Adrian McPherson also played for many other teams during his career. These included the Indiana Firebirds, Utah Blaze, Austin Wranglers, Grand Rapids Rampage, Tampa Bay Storm, and Los Angeles KISS in the AFL. In the CFL, he played for the Montreal Alouettes, Calgary Stampeders, and Toronto Argonauts. He also played for the Jacksonville Sharks in the National Arena League (NAL).

Early Life and High School Sports

Adrian McPherson grew up in Bradenton, Florida. He was an amazing athlete in high school. At Southeast High School, he was the first person in Florida history to win two special awards: Florida Mr. Basketball and Mr. Football Florida.

As a senior, he was named the Gatorade Florida Football Player of the Season. He threw for 3,728 yards and 42 touchdowns. He also ran for 765 yards and 10 touchdowns. Besides football and basketball, he played third base for his American Legion baseball team. His baseball team even won a state championship in 2002!

College Football Career

Adrian McPherson played for Florida State University for two seasons, in 2001 and 2002. In his first year (2001), he played in nine games. He completed 23 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns.

In his second year (2002), he started four games as quarterback. He completed 80 passes for 1,017 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran for 180 yards. Unfortunately, he left the team in November 2002 due to some issues. After this, he tried to join Tennessee State, but it did not work out.

Professional Football Journey

Even though some NFL teams had concerns, Adrian McPherson decided to play in the Arena Football League (AFL) first. He signed with the Indiana Firebirds.

Indiana Firebirds: A Strong Start

In 2004, his first season with the Firebirds, McPherson had a fantastic year. He threw 61 touchdowns and ran for 19 more. Because of his great performance, he was named the 2004 AFL Rookie of the Year. This award goes to the best new player in the league.

New Orleans Saints: NFL Experience

The New Orleans Saints picked Adrian McPherson in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL draft. The Saints hoped he would become their starting quarterback one day. However, after his first year, the Saints signed Drew Brees, who became a very famous quarterback for them.

In 2006, during a preseason game, McPherson was accidentally hit by a golf cart driven by the Tennessee Titans mascot. He later left the Saints team.

Moving Through the AFL and CFL

After his time with the Saints, Adrian McPherson played for several teams in both the AFL and CFL.

  • He played for the Utah Blaze and Austin Wranglers in 2007.
  • He then joined the Grand Rapids Rampage in 2007 and 2008.
  • In May 2008, he moved to the Canadian Football League (CFL) and signed with the Montreal Alouettes. He was a backup quarterback there for five seasons. During this time, he helped the Alouettes win the Grey Cup championship twice, in 2009 and 2010.
  • In 2013, he returned to the AFL with the Tampa Bay Storm. He even set a new AFL record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season!
  • He briefly played for the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL in 2014.
  • In 2014, he was assigned to the Los Angeles KISS in the AFL.
  • He later joined the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL in 2015 and 2016.
  • His last known team was the Jacksonville Sharks in 2018.

Adrian McPherson had a long and interesting career playing football in different leagues.
