Aetigkofen was once a small town, or municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Bucheggberg district, in the canton of Solothurn. On January 1, 2014, Aetigkofen joined with several other nearby towns. They all became part of a new, larger municipality called Buchegg.

What is Aetigkofen's History?

Aetigkofen is a very old place. It was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 1034. Back then, its name was Etikhouen.

Where is Aetigkofen Located?

Before it merged, Aetigkofen covered an area of about 2.0 square kilometers (0.77 square miles). A big part of this land, about 57%, was used for farming. Forests covered about 35% of the area. The remaining 6.8% was where buildings and roads were located.

Most of the forest land was covered with thick trees. For farming, people grew crops on 44.4% of the land. Another 10.7% was used for pastures where animals could graze. A small part, 2.0%, was used for growing fruits or grapes.

Aetigkofen is in the Bucheggberg district. It sits in the upper Mühle valley, at the eastern base of the Schöniberg mountain. The main part of Aetigkofen was a haufendorf village. This means it was an unplanned village with houses built close together around a central area. There were also a couple of farmhouses nearby, called Mettlen and Chutzenhof.
