Aguas Blancas is a small community, also known as a barrio, located in the town of Yauco, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 231 people lived there. It's a quiet place in the beautiful mountains of Puerto Rico.

A Look at Aguas Blancas History

Puerto Rico was once controlled by Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.

Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but not a state. In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that 1,170 people lived in the Aguas Blancas area at that time.

Geography of Aguas Blancas

Aguas Blancas is located in the Cordillera Central. This is a large mountain range in Puerto Rico. It is in the northern part of Yauco.

The highest point in the whole Yauco area is partly in Aguas Blancas. This high point is about 2,864 feet (873 meters) above sea level. It sits on the border with the nearby communities of Duey and Sierra Alta. The Duey River also starts and flows through this community.
