Alanson is a small village in Emmet County, Michigan. In 2020, about 778 people lived there.
Alanson is located in Littlefield Township. It sits right on U.S. Highway 31, where it meets M-68. Nearby cities include Petoskey (about 12 miles southwest) and Mackinaw City (about 25 miles north).
The village was first settled in 1875. It got its first post office in 1877, which was originally called Hinman. The name changed to Alanson in 1882.

Fun Things to Do in Alanson
Alanson is a cool place because it's part of the Inland Water Route. This route is a chain of lakes and rivers that boats can travel through. It includes Crooked, Burt, and Mullett lakes. It also has the Crooked, Indian, and Cheboygan rivers.
You can learn more about this special waterway at the Inland Water Route Historical Society Museum in Alanson. The village is also home to the Alanson Swing Bridge. This bridge crosses the Inland Water Route. It's known for being one of the shortest swing bridges in America.
Alanson also has a pretty hillside garden. It's right next to where the old train station used to be. The village also has a nice library inside its community center.
