Alejandro Abraham Guerra Morales (born on July 9, 1985) is a former professional footballer from Venezuela. He played as an attacking midfielder, which means he helped both attack and defend in the middle of the field.
Club Career
Caracas FC: Early Days
Alejandro Guerra was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He began his professional football journey with his hometown club, Caracas FC. He made his first team debut in 2003.
In September 2003, he scored his first professional goal. This happened during a big 6–0 win against Monagas.
Loan to Juventud Antoniana
In 2004, Guerra went on loan to Primera B Nacional club Juventud Antoniana for a year. He did not play any matches there. He returned to Caracas FC the next year.
Becoming a Starter at Caracas
After returning, Guerra became a regular player for Caracas FC. He scored his first goal in the Copa Libertadores on February 22, 2007. This goal helped his team win 1–0 against L.D.U. Quito. Guerra left Caracas FC in July 2010.
Deportivo Anzoátegui: Scoring Goals
On July 20, 2010, Guerra signed a one-year contract with Deportivo Anzoátegui, another top club in Venezuela. He played his first game for them on August 8, scoring a goal in a 2–2 draw.
Guerra scored his first professional hat-trick (three goals in one game) on April 3, 2011. This was in a 4–2 away win against Estudiantes de Mérida. He scored another hat-trick later that month in a huge 10–0 victory. He finished the season with 16 goals.
Mineros de Guayana: Key Player
In July 2011, Guerra joined Mineros de Guayana. He scored his first goals for this club on September 25, 2011. He scored two goals in a 2–1 home win.
Guerra was a very important player for Mineros. His team finished second in the 2013–14 season. He also played a big part in the 2012 Copa Sudamericana. He scored three goals in four games. His team became the first Venezuelan club to win an away match in that competition.
Atlético Nacional: Winning the Copa Libertadores
On June 30, 2014, Guerra moved to play football outside Venezuela for the first time. He joined Atlético Nacional on a one-year loan. In July 2015, the club bought him permanently.
Guerra played regularly and was a key player when Atlético Nacional won the 2016 Copa Libertadores. He played in 13 matches and scored three goals in this tournament. Two of his goals helped his team win 4–2 against Huracán on May 3, 2016. This win helped them reach the quarterfinals. By winning the tournament, he became the first Venezuelan player to lift the Copa Libertadores trophy.
Palmeiras: Brazilian Adventure
On December 27, 2016, the Brazilian club Palmeiras announced that Guerra had signed a three-year contract. He started playing for them in January 2017.
Loan to Bahia
On July 5, 2019, Palmeiras agreed to loan Alejandro Guerra to Bahia. He played for Bahia until the end of that season.
International Career
Alejandro Guerra played for Venezuela's Under-20 team in 2005. He then made his debut for the senior national team on May 5, 2006. He came on as a substitute in a 1–0 loss against Mexico.
He scored his first goal for the national team on January 14, 2007. This was in a 2–0 friendly win against Sweden. Guerra also played in major tournaments like the 2007 Copa América, 2015 Copa América, and Copa América Centenario. He played his first match in the Copa América on June 26, 2007, in a 1–0 win against Bolivia.
