Aleksandr Ivanovich Kuprin (Russian: Алекса́ндр Ива́нович Купри́н) was an important Russian writer. He was born on September 7, 1870, and passed away on August 25, 1938. Kuprin is famous for his powerful stories and novels.
His most well-known works include the novels The Duel (published in 1905) and The Pit. He also wrote many popular short stories and novellas. These include Moloch (1896), Olesya (1898), "Junior Captain Rybnikov" (1906), and "Emerald" (1907).
One of his beloved works is The Garnet Bracelet (1911). This story was so popular that it was even made into a movie in 1965. Kuprin's writing style is often linked to a movement called Naturalism. This means his stories often showed life as it really was, sometimes focusing on the difficult parts. He was also a journalist, which means he wrote for newspapers and magazines.
Kuprin received the Pushkin Prize for his writing. This was a very important award for writers in Russia. His stories continue to be read and enjoyed by many people today.
