Alex Brightman (born February 5, 1987) is a talented American actor and singer. He is famous for his amazing work in musical theatre, especially on Broadway.
He became well-known for playing Dewey Finn in the musical School of Rock in 2015. This role earned him a nomination for a Tony Award! Later, in 2019, he starred as the main character in Beetlejuice The Musical, which also got him another Tony nomination.
Since 2020, Alex has also lent his voice to animated shows. He voices characters like Robo Fizz and Fizzarolli in Helluva Boss. More recently, since 2024, he has voiced Sir Pentious and Adam in the show Hazbin Hotel.

Early Life and Growing Up
Alex Brightman grew up in Saratoga, California. His family is Jewish. His father started a special group at Apple to help people with disabilities. His mother managed a clinic that helped people with kidney problems.
Alex went to Bellarmine College Preparatory, a high school for boys in San Jose, California. He finished school there in 2005. When he was younger, he also performed with the Children's Musical Theater San Jose. In 2007, he acted in a play called "Mrs. Sharp" in New York.
Alex Brightman's Career
Starting on Broadway
Alex Brightman first worked on Broadway in 2008. He was part of the group and an understudy for the musical Glory Days. However, the show closed very quickly, so he never got to perform in it.
After that, Alex was cast as Boq, a munchkin, in the famous musical Wicked. This was his official Broadway debut, and he stayed with the show for two years! In 2012, he joined the musical Big Fish. He was in the ensemble and also an understudy for a main role. Then, in 2013, Alex played Michael Wormwood in Matilda the Musical.
Starring Roles in Musicals
In 2014, Alex Brightman joined the musical School of Rock, which was based on the popular movie. At first, he played different roles that were usually for child actors. But soon, he was chosen for the main role of Dewey Finn! He performed as Dewey Finn at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway.
For his amazing performance as Dewey, Alex was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2016. He played Dewey until November 2016 and even returned for a short time in April 2017.
In 2019, Alex returned to Broadway to play the main character in Beetlejuice, based on the movie. He played this role again in 2022. He was nominated for another Tony Award for this role! From August to November 2023, he also performed in a play called The Shark Is Broken.
From January to April 2024, he played Sir Lancelot in a new Broadway version of the musical Spamalot.
Other Exciting Projects
Alex Brightman is part of a comedy group called The (M)orons. He works with other Broadway actors and writers in this group.
He also helped create two new musicals. One is called The Whipping Boy, based on a book. The other is It's Kind of a Funny Story, based on a novel. Alex wrote the script for this one!
In 2019, it was announced that Alex would be in the comedy film Here Today. In 2020, he began voicing characters like Fizzarolli and Robo Fizz in the animated web series Helluva Boss. He also voiced Pugsley in the Netflix animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park.
In the tenth season of the TV show The Blacklist, he played a character named Herbie Hambright. Since 2024, he has been the voice of Sir Pentious and Adam in the animated show Hazbin Hotel.
Personal Life
Alex Brightman married casting director Jenny Ravitz on May 21, 2018. Their wedding took place in Brooklyn.
Alex has a special way of using his voice, which helps him create the unique, gruff voices for characters like Beetlejuice and Fizzarolli. This technique helps him avoid straining his vocal cords.
