Sierra Marjory Boggess (born May 20, 1982) is an American actress and singer. She is also a figure skater.
Sierra is famous for playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid on Broadway. She is also well-known for playing Christine Daaé many times in The Phantom of the Opera. She first played Christine in Las Vegas in 2006. Later, in 2010, she played Christine in London in Love Never Dies, which continues the Phantom story. In 2012, she was Fantine in Les Misérables in London. She also played Christine on Broadway in The Phantom of the Opera in 2013. In 2016, she created the role of Rosalie Mullins in School of Rock.

Early Life and Education
Sierra Boggess grew up in Denver, Colorado. Her family included many professional musicians. When she was young, Sierra was part of the Colorado Children's Chorale. She went to George Washington High School. Sierra has said that her drama classes in high school helped her a lot. She earned a degree in Fine Arts in 2004 from Millikin University. There, she studied singing with Cynthia Douglas.
Sierra's Career Journey
Sierra Boggess started her career in the musical Les Misérables. She was part of the group and also learned the role of Cosette for the U.S. national tour. She also played characters named Binky and Ram Dass in a musical called Princesses. This show was performed at the Goodspeed Opera House and the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle. Before this, she had roles in other musicals like West Side Story (as Maria) and The Pirates of Penzance (as Mabel). She also appeared in The Boy Friend (as Polly) and Sweet Charity (as Charity).
Early Roles and Broadway Debut (2006–2013)
Around 2006, Sierra was chosen to play Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera in Las Vegas. This show opened on June 24, 2006, at The Venetian Las Vegas. She starred with Anthony Crivello and Brent Barrett, who shared the role of the Phantom. Sierra stayed with the Las Vegas show for one year.
After that, Sierra made her first appearance on Broadway. She was the first actress to play Ariel in The Little Mermaid. She performed in the show's tryout in Denver from July 26 to September 9, 2007. The Broadway show started previews on November 3, 2007, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The official opening night was January 10, 2008. Sierra received good reviews for her performance. She stayed with The Little Mermaid for a year and a half, leaving on May 31, 2009.
While in The Little Mermaid, Sierra also performed with Kristin Chenoweth in a concert version of Music in the Air in February 2009.
From February 2010 to March 2011, Sierra played Christine Daaé again in Love Never Dies. This musical is a sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. She also took part in a special concert called the Rodgers and Hammerstein Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in London on August 22, 2010. After Love Never Dies, Sierra played Sharon in the Broadway show Master Class. This show began on June 14, 2011, and closed on September 4, 2011.
Sierra played Christine Daaé once more for the 25th anniversary concert of The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall. This was in London with her Love Never Dies co-star Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom. The concerts were on October 1 and 2, 2011.
In April 2012, Sierra joined the cast of a new musical show called Prince of Broadway. This show honored director Harold Prince. However, the project was delayed until 2013. On July 2, 2012, Sierra returned to Les Misérables in London. She played the role of Fantine at the Queen's Theatre until January 10, 2013.
On January 21, 2013, Sierra returned to the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. This was for the show's 25th anniversary. She starred with Hugh Panaro as the Phantom. She performed this role for a short time, until March 2, 2013.
After The Phantom of the Opera, Sierra started teaching musical theater classes. She also worked on a new musical based on the 1998 movie Ever After. She also performed her first solo show called Awakening at 54 Below in New York. These shows were recorded for her first solo album, Awakening: Live at 54 Below, which came out on December 10, 2013.
Recent Work (2014–Present)
In January 2014, Sierra appeared in a short film called Russian Broadway Shut Down. This film protested how the Russian government treated LGBTQ+ people in theater. Since 2014, Sierra has often shared a positive message: "You are enough. You are so enough. It's unbelievable how enough you are."
On March 20, 2014, it was announced that Sierra would return to The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway as Christine. She reunited with her The Little Mermaid co-star Norm Lewis as the Phantom. Norm Lewis was the first African-American actor to play the Phantom on Broadway. They started their performances on May 12, 2014. Sierra finished her run as Christine on September 6, 2014.
On April 3, 2014, Sierra played Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls at Carnegie Hall. She performed with Patrick Wilson as Sky Masterson and Nathan Lane as Nathan Detroit.
After her time in The Phantom of the Opera with Norm Lewis, Sierra went back to her old university, Millikin University. She performed a concert to raise money for the school's new Theatre & Dance building. The concert was based on her Awakening show.
In 2015, Sierra created the role of Rebecca Steinberg in the Broadway musical It Shoulda Been You. This show also starred Tyne Daly, who Sierra had worked with before. The musical opened on April 14 and closed on August 9, 2015.
Sierra then played Principal Rosalie Mullins in the musical School of Rock. This show is based on the movie and was created by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It started previews on November 9, 2015, and opened on December 6.
In February 2016, she starred in a concert version of The Secret Garden. She sang the role of Lily. In this show, she worked again with Ramin Karimloo and also starred with Cheyenne Jackson.
On August 8, 2016, Sierra finished her role as Rosalie Mullins in School Of Rock. She was then set to play Christine Daaé in a French production of The Phantom of the Opera. However, this show was postponed because of a fire at the Théâtre Mogador.
On November 10, 2016, Sierra performed with Kristin Chenoweth again during Kristin's solo show, My Love Letter to Broadway.
In June 2017, Sierra went on her first concert tour in Australia. She visited Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. She started her tour on January 28, 2017, and traveled with her sister Summer Boggess, who plays the cello.
Sierra starred as Countess Ellen Olenska in The Age of Innocence at Hartford Stage in Connecticut. The show ran from April 5 to May 6, 2018. It then moved to McCarter Theatre in New Jersey from September 7 to October 7, 2018. In early 2019, Sierra played Danielle de Barbarac in Ever After The Musical in Atlanta. She played this role again in December 2019.
From July 26 to 28, 2019, Sierra reunited with her Phantom co-star Anthony Crivello and Secret Garden co-star Cheyenne Jackson. They performed in the Hollywood Bowl's production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Sierra played Cinderella.
From March 13 to May 15, 2022, Sierra starred as Mary in the New York premiere of Harmony. This musical was created by Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman. In summer 2023, it was announced that Harmony would move to Broadway, and Sierra would continue her role. Sierra is also featured on the show's original cast recording, which was released on August 31, 2023.
Sierra also performed in A Little Night Music as Countess Charlotte Malcolm from August 6 to 28, 2022. From February 19 to March 26, 2023, she starred as Lily Craven in The Secret Garden in Los Angeles. In July 2023, it was announced that Sierra would sing as Laurey Williams on the 80th anniversary recording of Oklahoma!. This recording was released on September 15, 2023.
Video Blogs and Online Content
Sierra Boggess has created several video blog series, often with Broadway.com. One series was called Daae Days. In two episodes, Sierra interviewed many other Broadway actresses who had also played Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera. Her second video blog, Going Bridal, showed behind-the-scenes moments from rehearsals to the opening of It Shoulda Been You. Sierra also made a video series with her voice coach, Mary Setrakian, called Tea and Spinklers, released in 2014.
Personal Life
Sierra Boggess announced her engagement to producer and film director Stefano Da Frè on January 3, 2022. Stefano asked Sierra to marry him on New Year's Eve while they were on vacation in Finland. The couple shared on Instagram that they got married on April 23, 2023, at the Château at Coindre Hall in Huntington, New York.
Sierra's website says she loves yoga, is a vegetarian, and supports animal rights. She has often taken part in Broadway Barks, an event that helps cats and dogs find homes. This event was started by Bernadette Peters.
