Patrick Joseph Wilson (born July 3, 1973) is a talented American actor. He started his career in 1995, performing in popular Broadway musicals. He was even nominated for two Tony Awards for his roles in The Full Monty and Oklahoma!.
Patrick Wilson has starred in many well-known movies. These include The Phantom of the Opera (2004) and Watchmen (2009). He is widely recognized for his roles in scary movies like the Insidious film series and as Ed Warren in The Conjuring universe. He also directed his first movie, Insidious: The Red Door, in 2023.
On television, Wilson played important roles in the series A Gifted Man and Fargo. In the DC Extended Universe, he played Ocean Master in the superhero films Aquaman (2018) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023).

Patrick Joseph Wilson was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 3, 1973. His mother, Mary Kay Wilson, was a voice teacher and singer. His father, John Franklin Wilson, was a news anchor. Patrick has two older brothers, Paul and Mark. Mark later became a news anchor like their father.
Patrick grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. He went to Shorecrest Preparatory School. In 1995, he earned a degree in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University.
Acting career highlights
Starting on stage and TV
Patrick Wilson began his acting journey in 1995. He was an understudy for the role of Chris Scott in the touring show of Miss Saigon. The next year, he played Billy Bigelow in the national tour of Carousel.
In 1999, he starred in the off-Broadway show Bright Lights, Big City. He then made his Broadway theatre debut in The Full Monty in 2000. For this role, he was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award.
In 2001, he sang "On the Street Where You Live" for Julie Andrews at the Kennedy Center Honors. In 2002, he received great reviews for his role as Curly McLain in the Broadway show Oklahoma!. He was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award again.
He also gained praise for his role as Joe Pitt in the 2003 HBO miniseries Angels in America. This role earned him nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
First film roles
In 2004, Patrick Wilson appeared in his first film, The Alamo. He played William B. Travis. That same year, he co-starred in the musical film The Phantom of the Opera as Viscount Raoul de Chagny.
In 2006, Wilson starred in Little Children. He also appeared in Running with Scissors. In 2007, he played Brian Callahan in the independent film Purple Violets. In 2008, he starred in Lakeview Terrace.
Wilson played Dan Dreiberg / Nite Owl II in the 2009 film Watchmen. He gained 25 pounds for this role. This movie brought him back together with his Little Children co-star, Jackie Earle Haley.
Becoming widely known
Wilson played the villain Lynch in the 2010 movie The A-Team. He also starred with Rose Byrne in James Wan's horror film Insidious. He returned for the sequel, Insidious: Chapter 2, in 2013.
In 2013, Wilson played the famous paranormal investigator Ed Warren. He starred alongside Vera Farmiga as Ed's wife, Lorraine, in the horror film The Conjuring. This movie was very popular and became one of the highest-grossing horror films ever. Wilson played Ed Warren again in The Conjuring 2 (2016) and other films in the series.
In 2014, Wilson was chosen for the main role of Lou Solverson in the second season of the TV series Fargo. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his performance.
Continued success and directing debut
In 2016, he co-starred in The Founder. This movie was about the life of Ray Kroc, who helped build McDonald's. In 2016, Barbra Streisand released an album where she sang a duet with Wilson.

In 2018, Wilson co-starred in the action thriller The Commuter. He worked again with his The Conjuring co-star, Vera Farmiga. That same year, he played Orm Marius / Ocean Master in the DC Extended Universe film Aquaman. He returned as Ocean Master in the 2023 sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
In 2019, Wilson starred in the World War II film Midway. In 2020, he joined the cast of Moonfall, which was released in 2022.
In 2020, it was announced that Wilson would direct his first movie, Insidious: The Red Door. It was released on July 7, 2023. This film is a direct sequel to Insidious: Chapter 2. Wilson also sang a song for the movie's soundtrack with the band Ghost.
Charity work
In May 2012, Patrick Wilson and his brothers performed a concert as the band VanWilson. They raised money for Southeastern Guide Dogs' Paws For Patriots program. They collected $30,000 for the program. The organization honored them by naming puppies after them. The brothers have also performed concerts to benefit All Children's Hospital and the St. Petersburg Free Clinic.
Personal life
Patrick Wilson married Polish-American actress Dagmara Domińczyk in 2005. She also went to Carnegie Mellon University. They have two sons, born in 2006 and 2009. They live in Montclair, New Jersey. Patrick's youngest son, Kassian, has appeared in a few films. His sister-in-law is actress Marika Domińczyk, who is married to actor and director Scott Foley.
In April 2012, Wilson gave a speech at his old university, Carnegie Mellon University. He shared memories from his childhood and his acting career.
