Kimberly Alexis Bledel (born September 16, 1981) is an American actress and model. She is famous for playing Rory Gilmore in the TV show Gilmore Girls (from 2000 to 2007). She also played Emily Malek in The Handmaid's Tale (from 2017 to 2021). Alexis Bledel also appeared in Mad Men in 2012. Later, she played Rory Gilmore again in the Netflix show Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016.
Alexis Bledel first appeared in a movie as Winnie Foster in Tuck Everlasting (2002). She also acted in Sin City (2005) and Post Grad (2009). Many people know her as Lena Kaligaris from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005) and its sequel (2008).
Alexis Bledel has won several awards for her acting. For her role in The Handmaid's Tale, she won an Emmy Award. This is a very important award in television. She has also been nominated for other awards, like the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Early Life and Family
Alexis Bledel was born on September 16, 1981, in Houston, Texas. Her mother, Nanette, worked as a gift processor and flight attendant. Her father, Martín Bledel, is from Argentina. Alexis also has a younger brother named Eric.
Her father's family has roots in Denmark and Germany. Her paternal grandfather, Enrique Einar Bledel Huus, was a vice president for Coca-Cola in Latin America. Alexis's mother was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but moved to Mexico City when she was eight.
Alexis grew up speaking Spanish at home. She did not learn English until she started school. She considers herself Latina.
When she was a child, Alexis's mother encouraged her to try community theater. This helped her overcome her shyness. She acted in local plays like Our Town and The Wizard of Oz. Later, she was discovered by a talent scout at a shopping mall and started working as a fashion model.

Starting Out: Gilmore Girls and First Movies (2000–2008)
Alexis Bledel made her TV debut in 2000 in the show Gilmore Girls. She starred alongside Lauren Graham. The show ran for seven seasons, from 2000 to 2007. Alexis played Rory Gilmore, the daughter of a single mother named Lorelai Gilmore (played by Lauren Graham).
At first, Rory was a high school student at a special private school. She lived with her mom in a small town in Connecticut. Later, Rory went to Yale University for college. There, she worked as an editor for the Yale Daily News newspaper.
Alexis Bledel's first major movie role was in Tuck Everlasting (2002). This fantasy movie was based on a popular book. In 2005, she co-starred in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In this movie, she played Lena Kaligaris, an artist who shares a special pair of "magical" jeans with her three best friends.
Also in 2005, Alexis was in the crime movie Sin City. After Gilmore Girls ended, she played Lena Kaligaris again in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 in 2008. The next year, she starred in the comedy movie Post Grad.
Continuing Success: The Handmaid's Tale and More (2009–Present)
In 2009, Alexis Bledel appeared in the romantic comedy The Good Guy. She played Beth, the girlfriend of the main character. In April 2009, she also had a guest role in the TV medical drama ER.
Alexis co-starred in the historical drama The Conspirator, directed by Robert Redford. She played the girlfriend of a lawyer who defended the first woman executed by the U.S. government. In 2010, she also starred in the Canadian drama The Kate Logan Affair.
In 2016, Netflix brought back Gilmore Girls with four new episodes. Alexis Bledel returned as Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
In 2017, she joined the cast of The Handmaid's Tale for Hulu. She played a character named Ofglen, later known as Emily Malek. Her role became a main part of the show in the second season. Her acting in this show was highly praised. She won an Emmy Award for her performance in 2017. She left the show after the fourth season.
Personal Life
Alexis Bledel was in a relationship with her Gilmore Girls co-star Milo Ventimiglia from 2002 to 2006.
In 2012, Alexis started dating Vincent Kartheiser. They met while she was a guest star on the show Mad Men. They got engaged in March 2013 and married in California in June 2014. Alexis and Vincent welcomed their son in the fall of 2015. They divorced in August 2022.
