Lauren Helen Graham (born March 16, 1967) is an American actress and author. She is famous for playing Lorelai Gilmore in the TV show Gilmore Girls. For this role, she won two Teen Choice Awards in 2005 and 2006. She also played Sarah Braverman in the TV series Parenthood from 2010 to 2015.
Lauren Graham has also been in several movies. These include Bad Santa (2003), The Pacifier (2005), and Evan Almighty (2007). In 2013, she published her first novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe. Later, in 2016, she returned as Lorelai Gilmore for the Gilmore Girls reunion on Netflix. She also released a book of essays called Talking as Fast as I Can.

Early Life and Education
Lauren Graham was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her mother, Donna Grant, was a fashion buyer. Her father, Lawrence Graham, worked for the candy industry. Lauren was raised in her father's Catholic faith. She has Irish family roots.
When Lauren was five, her parents divorced. She moved to Virginia with her father. Her mother moved to London to follow a music career. Lauren was raised by her father, and they were very close. She also spent some of her childhood in Southampton, New York.
As a young girl, Lauren enjoyed riding horses in competitions. But she soon decided to try acting. She practiced her acting skills at Langley High School. She graduated in 1984.
Lauren went to New York University and then to Barnard College. In 1988, she earned a degree in English literature from Barnard. Later, in 1992, she moved to Texas. There, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting Performance from Southern Methodist University.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting Out in Acting (1994–1999)
After finishing college, Lauren Graham moved back to New York City. She worked as a waitress and helped students prepare for the SAT test. She really wanted to be an actress. In 1995, she moved to Hollywood to pursue her dream.
She appeared in many TV commercials for products like Cascade and AT&T. She also hosted special preview weekends on The Movie Channel.
From 1996 to 1997, Lauren was a guest star on several NBC shows. She appeared on 3rd Rock from the Sun, Caroline in the City, and Seinfeld. She also had a role in Law & Order. In this show, she acted with Scott Cohen, who later played one of her love interests in Gilmore Girls.
Gilmore Girls and Movies (2000–2008)
In 2000, Lauren Graham got her most famous role. She played Lorelai Gilmore in Gilmore Girls. Lorelai was a quick-witted single mom raising her teenage daughter in a small town. Lauren felt a strong connection to the story. She liked that it was both serious and funny.
For her work on Gilmore Girls, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2002. She also received nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Lauren also appeared in movies during this time. Some of her film roles include Sweet November, Bad Santa, The Pacifier, and Evan Almighty.
She also enjoyed acting in short films. In 2007, she signed a big deal with NBC. She also did voice-overs for commercials, like for Kellogg's Special K and American Express.
Broadway, Parenthood, and Gilmore Girls Reunion (2009–2016)
In 2009, Lauren Graham made her Broadway debut. She played Miss Adelaide in the play Guys and Dolls.
In 2009, she voiced the character Fran Lockwood in the animated movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. In October 2009, she joined the TV series Parenthood. She played Sarah Braverman, a single mother. The show aired on NBC for six seasons.
In 2015, Lauren appeared in the adventure movie Max. She played the mother of a U.S. Marine who was killed. Her character then adopted his dog.
In 2016, Lauren appeared in the movie Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. She played the mother of the main character. That same year, she returned as Lorelai Gilmore for the Netflix reunion series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Recent Work (2017–Present)
In 2017, Lauren Graham appeared in three episodes of the HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm. She also voices the character Oxana Hauntley in the Disney Junior animated series Vampirina.
From 2020 to 2021, Lauren played Joan, the boss of the main character, in the NBC show Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. From 2021 to 2022, she starred as Alex Morrow in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. This is a Disney+ TV series based on the 1992 movie.
In 2024, Lauren Graham was cast in a new movie called Twinless.
Writing Career
Lauren Graham's first novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe, came out in 2013. This funny book is about her own experiences trying to become an actress in New York in the 1990s. In May 2013, the book became a New York Times best seller.
In November 2016, her second book was published. It was a collection of personal stories called Talking as Fast as I Can: from Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything In Between). This book also became a New York Times best seller. In 2022, she published another book of essays, Have I Told You This Already?: Stories I Don't Want to Forget to Remember.
Lauren has also worked on screenplays. She adapted the novel The Royal We into a script for CBS Films. She also bought the movie rights for the novel Windfall.
Personal Life
Lauren Graham was in a relationship with actor Peter Krause from 2010 to 2021. They first met in 1995 while working on the show Caroline in the City. They became a couple when they starred together in Parenthood. In 2022, it was announced that their relationship had ended.
In the mid-1990s, Lauren Graham shared a home with actress Connie Britton.
