Ali Ahmad oghlu Masimli (born January 3, 1953) is an Azerbaijani politician. He once served as a top government official in Azerbaijan, helping with the country's economy. For a short time, he even acted as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan.
Early Life and Education
Ali Masimli was born in a city called Shaki in Azerbaijan. After finishing high school in 1970, he went to Azerbaijan State Economic University. He studied economics and graduated in 1975.
Later, he continued his studies to earn a higher degree in economics. He also spent some time serving in the Soviet Army in Kazakhstan from 1975 to 1976. After his military service, he continued his advanced studies in Baku and Moscow.
Political Career
From 1991 to 1993, Ali Masimli held many important jobs in the government of independent Azerbaijan. He helped guide the country's economic plans. He was in charge of things like coordinating economic policies and managing foreign investments.
He also led the State Economic Planning Committee and was the Minister of Economic Development. From January 26 to April 28, 1993, he served as the Acting Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. During this time, he created important plans for Azerbaijan's economic growth and agricultural reforms.
Masimli also started a special fund in 1993 to help refugees and people who had to leave their homes. He has written many scientific articles, about 1,200 of them, which have been shared in countries like Germany, Sweden, Russia, and Turkey.
In 2005, Ali Masimli was elected to the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, which is like their parliament. He won with 33.97% of the votes in his area, Shaki. Since 2005, he has been part of an opposition group called YeS (New Policy). He also works on a special committee in parliament that deals with economic issues.
