The All-Russian Society of Philatelists was a group for people who loved collecting stamps. This type of collecting is called philately. It was started in 1923 in Soviet Russia.
Over time, the society changed its name. It became the All-Union Society of Philatelists. Later, it was known as the All-Union Society of Collectors.
History of the Society
The idea for a new national stamp collecting group started in 1922. It was supported by the Russian Bureau of Philately. This bureau was part of the government's postal and telegraph services.
On March 15, 1923, the rules for the All-Russian Society of Philatelists were approved. The first meeting of the society happened on April 6, 1923, in Moscow.
The society quickly grew. It opened branches in many cities. These included Yerevan, Tiflis, Tashkent, Ashgabat, and Baku.
From 1924 to 1925, the society held a big event. It was called the First All-Union Philatelic Exhibition. This was a major show for stamp collectors. The society also published its own magazine. It was called Soviet Philatelist and was printed from 1922 to 1932. The All-Russian Society of Philatelists continued to exist until the late 1930s.
