Soviet Philatelist or Sovetskii Filatelist was a central philatelic (stamp collecting) magazine published in the USSR. It was printed from 1922 to 1932. In some years, like 1925 and from 1928 to 1932, its name changed to Soviet Collector or Sovetskii Kollektsioner.

The Story of the Magazine
Early Collecting Magazines
Around 1922, right after the Russian Civil War, many small magazines and booklets for collectors started appearing in Soviet Russia. These included:
- Russkii Kollektsioner (Russian Collector) from Novocherkassk.
- Priural'skii Kollektsioner (Ural Collector).
- Krymskii Kollektsioner (Crimean Collector).
However, people soon realized it would be better to have one main magazine for all collectors. They wanted a serious publication that would bring all Russian collectors together. This way, they could share more important articles and information.
Birth of Soviet Philatelist
By 1924, most of these smaller local magazines had stopped publishing. In September 1922, a new and important magazine, Soviet Philatelist, was first printed in Moscow. The person who started and edited this magazine was F. G. Chuchin. He was also the Commissioner for Philately and Scripophily, which means he was in charge of stamp and bond collecting for the government.
Name Changes and Combinations
In 1925, the magazine's name changed to Sovetskii Kollektsioner. At this time, it was published twice a week and edited by V. A. Bessonov.
A few years later, in 1926, three different magazines joined together. These were Sovetskii Filatelist, Sovetskii Kollektsioner, and Radio de Filintern. They started to be published under one cover, but each magazine still kept its own numbering system. This combined publication continued until December 1927.
In the first half of 1928, the combined issues were only titled Sovetskii Filatelist. Then, in July 1928, the magazine changed its name back to Sovetskii Kollektsioner. It was published by the Soviet Philatelic Association and the All-Russian Society of Philatelists. The very last issue of the magazine came out in December 1932.
