Allen is a town located in the state of Oklahoma, USA. It is found in both Hughes and Pontotoc counties. In 2020, about 805 people lived there.

Discovering Allen's Past
Allen was started in 1883 by a group of settlers. They came from Gainesville, Texas, in 1882. They were led by Doctor John Trigg Gilmore and his family. They first settled in an area called Cold Springs.
The very first log cabin in Allen was built in 1883. This building was special because it was used as both a school and a church. The town was named after the son of William McCall, who was a deputy United States marshal.
Allen is also known as the place where the Battle of Middle Boggy happened. This battle was part of the American Civil War.
In 1892, Dr. Gilmore became Allen's first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. Two years later, he also started the town's first Masonic Lodge, which is a type of community organization.
A railway line was built near Allen in 1909. However, it went around the town by about half a mile.
Allen became a "boomtown" in 1913. This happened when oil was found and drilled west of the town. A boomtown is a town that grows very quickly because of a sudden increase in jobs or money. The population grew from 645 people in 1910 to 1,389 in 1930. After that, it slowly went down to 907 people by 1970.
Today, the main industries in Allen are petroleum (oil), ranching, and agriculture (farming).
The local newspaper in Allen is called the Allen Advocate. It comes out every Thursday. The newspaper is published by the Robinson Publishing Company, which started in 1982. This company also publishes other newspapers in nearby towns.
Where is Allen Located?
Allen is located on State Highway 1. It is about 19 miles (31 km) northeast of Ada. Ada is the main town for Pontotoc County.
The town of Allen covers an area of about 0.9 square mile (2.4 km2). All of this area is land.
