Allouez Township is in the western part of Keweenaw County. It sits on the northwest side of the Keweenaw Peninsula. This area is known for its beautiful natural surroundings.
Where is Allouez Township Located?
The township shares borders with other areas. To the south, it's next to Calumet Charter Township. To the southeast, you'll find Sherman Township. Houghton Township is to the east. To the northwest, Allouez Township touches the shores of Lake Superior.
A special natural spot called the Black Creek Nature Sanctuary is also found within the township. It's a great place to explore nature.

Two important roads run through Allouez Township:

Communities Within Allouez Township
Allouez Township is home to several smaller communities:
- Ahmeek is a village inside the township. It's the only official town in Keweenaw County.
- Allouez is a community that isn't officially a town. It's located along US 41 and M-26. This community started in 1859. It was created by the Allouez Mining Company to dig for copper. A post office opened here in 1873.
- Bumbletown is another community. It's known for a large pile of rocks left over from old mining operations.
- Eagle River is a community mostly located in Houghton Township. Only a tiny part of it is in Allouez Township.
- Fulton is a community that was once home to the Forsyth Mine. This mine operated until 1847. It also had a railway station.
- Mohawk is a community about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Ahmeek. The Mohawk ZIP Code covers a large part of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
- Ojibway is a community named after the Ojibwe people. They are a Native American group native to this area. It started as a train station near the Gratiot River.
- Seneca is another community located within the township.
