Almens (in Romansh: Almen) was once a small town, called a municipality, in the Swiss area of Graubünden. It was part of the Hinterrhein district. On January 1, 2015, Almens joined with several other towns like Paspels, Pratval, Rodels, and Tomils to create a new, bigger municipality called Domleschg.

A Look at Almens' Past
Almens is quite old! It was first written about way back in the early 800s. Back then, it was known as de Lemenne.
Where is Almens Located?
Before it merged, Almens covered an area of about 8.4 square kilometers (around 3.2 square miles). A big part of this land, about 33.9%, was used for farming. Forests covered an even larger area, about 45.5%. Only a small bit, 1.7%, had buildings or roads. The rest of the land, about 19%, was made up of things like rivers or mountains that aren't used for farming or building.
Almens is found in a part of the Hinterrhein district called Domleschg. It sits high up on a flat area above the right side of the Hinterrhein River. The area includes the main village of Almens and a tiny village called Mulegns.
Who Lives in Almens?
In 2013, Almens had 228 people living there. Over the ten years before that, the number of people living in Almens grew by about 5.2%.
In 2000, there were slightly more females (52.5%) than males (47.5%) living in Almens. The population included people of all ages, from young children to very old adults.
When people in Switzerland voted in the 2007 federal election, the most popular political group in Almens was the SPS. Other popular groups included the SVP, the FDP, and the CVP.
Many adults in Almens (about 76.1% of those aged 25-64) have completed higher education, like going to a university or a special college.
Almens had a very low unemployment rate of only 0.33%. In 2005, many people worked in farming. A few people worked in manufacturing, and some worked in services like shops or offices.
