Alton Bay is a small community in the town of Alton, located in Belknap County, New Hampshire, United States. It's not a separate town, but a part of Alton. This area sits right on Alton Bay, which is a long inlet of Lake Winnipesaukee. This part of the lake is its southernmost point. Where is Alton Bay?
Alton Bay is found where two main roads meet: New Hampshire Route 11 and Route 28A. It's about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the main part of Alton town.

Alton Bay has an interesting history, especially with transportation.
The Railroad Era
- In 1851, Alton Bay became the end point, or "terminus," for the Cochecho Railroad. This train line came from Dover.
- Later, in 1890, this rail line became known as the Lake Shore Railroad. It even extended further west to Lakeport in Laconia.
- However, the trains stopped running on this line in 1935.
Lake Travel
- Since 1872, large boats like the MS Mount Washington and older ships have regularly stopped at Alton Bay. These boats travel across Lake Winnipesaukee, making Alton Bay a key stop for lake adventures.

Alton Bay is home to a special place called the Alton Bay Christian Conference Center.
