Amod Lloyd Field (born October 11, 1967) is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver and defensive back. Amod played for teams in the National Football League (NFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the Arena Football League (AFL).

Early Life and High School

Amod Lloyd Field was born on October 11, 1967, in Passaic, New Jersey. He went to Passaic High School in his hometown.

College Sports Star

Amod Field was a student and athlete at Montclair State University from 1985 to 1989. He was a big part of the Montclair State Red Hawks football team. During his college football career, he caught 108 passes for 1,941 yards and scored 24 touchdowns.

But Amod wasn't just a football player! He was also amazing at track and field. He won the outdoor NCAA Division III championship in the 400 meter hurdles two times. He was named a Division III track and field All-American eight times, which means he was one of the best college athletes in the country for his events.

On top of that, Amod played one year of basketball. He was the top scorer for his team, averaging 15.4 points per game. In 2000, he was honored for his incredible college sports career by being inducted into the Montclair State Athletics Hall of Fame.

Professional Football Journey

After college, Amod Field started his professional football career. He played in several different leagues, showing his skills as both a wide receiver and a defensive back.

NFL Experience

In 1990, Amod signed with the Phoenix Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL). He played in two games for the Cardinals during the 1991 season. He was listed as a wide receiver during his time with the team.

He later signed with the San Diego Chargers in 1992, but he did not play in any games for them.

Canadian Football League (CFL)

In 1992, Amod played for the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League. He played in nine games as a defensive back. He had three catches for 55 yards and also made two interceptions. He was also active on special teams, returning kicks and punts.

Arena Football League (AFL) Highlights

Amod Field spent many seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL), where players often played both offense and defense under "ironman rules."

  • Tampa Bay Storm (1993): Amod played three games for the Storm. He helped the team win ArenaBowl VII in 1993, which is like the Super Bowl for the AFL!
  • Massachusetts Marauders (1994): He played in 11 games, catching 30 passes for 358 yards and two touchdowns. He also made many tackles on defense.
  • San Jose SaberCats (1995-1996): In 1995, he had 24 catches for 305 yards and eight touchdowns. He was so good that he was named second-team All-Arena as a wide receiver/defensive back.
  • Orlando Predators (1996): Amod played three games for the Predators, scoring touchdowns both by catching passes and by running the ball.
  • Connecticut Coyotes (1996): He also played for the Coyotes in 1996.
  • New York CityHawks (1997): In 1997, he played three games for the CityHawks, catching passes and scoring touchdowns.
  • New Jersey Red Dogs (1997): Amod finished his playing career with the Red Dogs. He had 23 catches for 232 yards and three touchdowns, and also made tackles and an interception on defense.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Amod Field became a coach. He was an assistant coach for his old college team, the Montclair State Red Hawks, from 1996 to 1998. He also coached for the New Jersey Red Dogs in the AFL from 1999 to 2000.

Family Life

Amod Field's son, Da'Mon Merkerson, also became a professional football player. He even spent some time with the Cardinals, just like his dad, and also played in the AFL.
