History of Anadolu University
Anadolu University started from the Eskişehir Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences. This academy was first set up in 1958.
In 1982, Anadolu University was officially created. It brought together four different schools in Eskişehir. These included the original Academy of Economics, an architecture and engineering school, an education institute, and a medical school. Since the Academy of Economics started in 1958, Anadolu University uses that year as its founding date.
What is the Campus Like?
Most of Anadolu University's main buildings are on the Yunusemre Campus. This campus is right in the middle of Eskişehir.
At Yunusemre Campus, you'll find student dorms and the university hospital. Most of the offices where the university is managed are also here.
The university also has 88 smaller offices in cities across Turkey. These help students who are learning from a distance. Many of these offices offer extra classes and advice.
How Does Distance Learning Work?
Since 1982, Anadolu University has been a leader in distance education in Turkey. This means students can learn from home, often using online materials.
The university's main goal is to help people who live in rural areas. It also helps those who don't have time or money for regular classes. This program has been very successful.
In 1982, fewer than 30,000 students were in these programs. By 2005, over 870,000 students were enrolled! Now, Turkish people in Northern Cyprus and the European Union can also join.
You can get a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Economics or Business Administration. There are also nineteen 2-year associate degrees in many different subjects.
The university also trains preschool and English language teachers. They do this through distance learning. However, English teacher students must also attend two years of in-person classes.
Courses are taught in many ways. This includes TV and radio shows, video calls, and the internet. Students can also get help or attend optional evening classes at the university's local offices.
