Andranik Timotian-Samarani, known as Andranik "Ando" Teymourian, was born on March 6, 1983. He is a retired professional footballer from Iran. He usually played as a defensive midfielder, which means he helped protect his team's goal. He could also play as a wide midfielder. Andranik made history by becoming the first Christian to be the captain of the Iran national football team.
From 2006 to 2010, he played for three different clubs in England. These included Bolton Wanderers and Fulham in the top league, the Premier League. He also played for Barnsley in the Football League Championship.
Teymourian played his first game for Iran in 2005. He was part of Iran's team for the 2006 and 2014 World Cups. He also played in the 2007, 2011, and 2015 Asian Cups.

Club Career Highlights
Starting His Journey
Andranik was born in Tehran, Iran. His parents were Armenian. He began his football career with Oghab F.C. in Iran. Later, he played for F.C. Aboomoslem in the Iranian Premier League. During the 2005–06 season, Andranik played 26 games for Aboomoslem and scored one goal.
Playing in England
In August 2006, Andranik joined FA Premier League club Bolton Wanderers. He signed a two-year contract. He scored his first two goals for Bolton in an FA Cup game against Doncaster Rovers in January 2007. This was only his third game for the club. He then played his first full Premier League match against Fulham. His first two league goals came in a great performance against Wigan Athletic in April 2007.
On June 12, 2008, Andranik moved to Fulham for free. He signed a two-year contract. He played his first game for Fulham against Arsenal, helping his team win 1–0. In February 2009, he went on loan to Barnsley until the end of the season. He later said he wanted to stay with Fulham. However, Fulham announced his release in July 2010.
Back to Iran
On September 19, 2010, Teymourian returned to Iran. He joined Tractor, a club based in Tabriz. This move marked the end of his time playing in England.
In July 2011, Teymourian signed with Esteghlal, a club in Tehran. He played his first game for Esteghlal against Sepahan. In November 2011, he was chosen as one of the top ten players for the Asian Player of the Year award. He helped Esteghlal win the Hazfi Cup in his first season.
Playing in Qatar
Teymourian then signed a one-year deal with Qatari club Al Kharaitiyat SC. After his contract ended in July 2013, he left the club.
More Time with Esteghlal
On July 18, 2013, Teymourian came back to Esteghlal. He signed a three-year contract. He scored an amazing 40-yard goal in a match against Buriram United, which Esteghlal won 2–1. He broke his arm and was out for a month. When he returned, Esteghlal finished fifth in the league.
In August 2014, Teymourian was named the best player of the 2013–14 season.
Later Career
On December 27, 2014, Teymourian joined Tractor again. He scored a free-kick in his first game back with the team.
In July 2015, Teymourian signed with another Qatari club, Umm Salal. He left the club in January 2016 after playing 14 games.
He then signed with Saipa in January 2016. An injury meant he only played four matches before leaving in July 2016. In July 2016, Teymourian returned to Tabriz and signed with Machine Sazi.
International Career

Teymourian played for Iran's national youth teams before joining the senior team. He was part of the national team during the 2006 World Cup. He showed great passion for his country during the tournament.
He also played in the 2007 and 2011 Asian Cups. He became a key player, helping Iran qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
On May 18, 2014, Teymourian became the captain of Iran's team against Belarus. This made him the first Christian to captain the Iranian national team. He played all three group stage matches in the 2014 World Cup. This made him one of the most capped Iran players in World Cup history, with six matches. He also played in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, where he made three assists.
Before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, Teymourian was chosen as the new captain for Iran. This happened after Javad Nekounam retired. Teymourian earned his 100th cap for the national team in a 1–0 win against Uzbekistan.
Personal Life
Andranik's older brother, Serjik Teymourian, was also a football player. He played in Germany for 1. FSV Mainz 05. Sadly, Serjik passed away in 2020 at age 46 due to a traffic accident.
