Andranik "Ando" Timotian-Samarani, known as Andranik Teymourian, is a former professional footballer from Iran. He was born on March 6, 1983. He played as a midfielder.
Andranik made history as the first Christian player to be the captain of the Iran national football team. From 2006 to 2010, he played for three different clubs in England. These included Bolton Wanderers and Fulham in the top league, the Premier League. He also played for Barnsley in the Football League Championship.
Teymourian first played for the Iran national team in 2005. He was part of their teams for the 2006 and 2014 World Cups. He also played in the 2007, 2011, and 2015 Asian Cups.

Andranik's Club Journey
Starting His Football Career
Andranik Teymourian was born in Tehran, Iran. His parents were from Armenia. He began his professional football journey with Oghab F.C. in Iran. Later, he moved to F.C. Aboomoslem in the top Iranian league. During the 2005–06 season, he played 26 games for Aboomoslem and scored one goal.
Playing in England: Bolton Wanderers
In August 2006, Andranik signed a two-year contract with FA Premier League club Bolton Wanderers. He joined them after getting permission to work in England.
He scored his first two goals for Bolton in an FA Cup match on January 6, 2007. This was only his third game for the club. He then played his first full Premier League game against Fulham in February 2007. His first two league goals came in April 2007 against Wigan Athletic. He was named the best player of that match.
Moving to Fulham
On June 12, 2008, Andranik joined Fulham on a free transfer. He signed a two-year contract. He played his first game for Fulham against Arsenal, helping his team win 1–0. In February 2009, he went on loan to Barnsley until the end of the season. Fulham announced that he was released from his contract in July 2010.
Returning to Iran: Tractor and Esteghlal
In September 2010, Teymourian went back to Iran. He joined Tractor, a club based in Tabriz. This move marked the end of his time playing in England.
In July 2011, Teymourian signed with Esteghlal, a club in Tehran. He played his first game for them against Sepahan. In November 2011, he was one of ten players nominated for the Asian Player of the Year award. He helped Esteghlal win the Hazfi Cup in his first season.
Playing in Qatar and Back to Iran
Teymourian signed a one-year deal with the Qatari team Al Kharaitiyat SC. After his contract ended in July 2013, he left the club.
On July 18, 2013, Teymourian returned to Esteghlal. He signed a three-year contract. He scored an amazing 40-yard goal in a match against Buriram United. Esteghlal won that game 2–1. In August 2014, Teymourian was named the best player of the 2013–14 season at the annual awards.
In December 2014, Teymourian joined Tractor again. He scored a free-kick in his first game back with the team. He later played for Umm Salal in Qatar and then Saipa and Machine Sazi in Iran.
Andranik's International Career
Teymourian played for Iran's national youth teams before joining the senior team. He was a key player for Iran in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. After Iran's last game in that World Cup, pictures of a very emotional Teymourian became famous. He was seen crying on the grass, showing his deep passion for his country. Because of this, he became known as a national hero in Iran.
He also played in the 2007 and 2011 Asian Cups. He became a regular starter for Iran, helping them qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
On May 18, 2014, Teymourian became the captain of the Iran national team in a match against Belarus. This made him the first Christian to captain the Iranian national team. He played all three group stage matches in the 2014 World Cup. This made him one of Iran's most experienced players in the World Cup, with six matches.
After Javad Nekounam retired, Teymourian was chosen as the new captain for Iran before the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He earned his 100th cap (game) for the national team in a 1–0 win against Uzbekistan.
Andranik's Personal Life
Andranik has an older brother named Serjik Teymourian. Serjik was also a football player. He played in Germany for 1. FSV Mainz 05. Sadly, Serjik passed away in 2020 at the age of 46 due to a traffic accident.
