Andrea Pollack was born in 1961 in a city called Schwerin. She joined the SC Dynamo Berlin swimming club. This is where she trained to become a top athlete. Her hard work helped her prepare for big competitions.

Olympic Success

Andrea became famous at a young age. She was only fifteen when she competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. There, she won two gold medals.

Montreal 1976

  • She won gold in the 200 meter butterfly race.
  • She also won gold with her team in the 4×100 meter medley relay.
  • Andrea also earned two silver medals at the Montreal Games.

World Records and Other Achievements

Andrea Pollack was not just an Olympic champion. She also set new world records. In 1978, she broke the world record for the women's 200 meter butterfly twice! She also won medals at other major swimming events:

Later Life

Later in her life, Andrea and other swimmers from East Germany shared important information. They explained that they had been given certain substances without their full knowledge. This was a sad and unfair part of sports history at that time.

Andrea married Norbert Pinske, who was a cyclist. Their son, Michael Pinske, also became an athlete. He competed in judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
