Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (pronounced: Mek-len-boorg For-pom-ern) is one of the 16 states in the country. Its capital city is Schwerin. This state is known for its beautiful nature, including many lakes and a long coastline along the Baltic Sea. It is a popular place for holidays, with many beaches and historical towns.

Districts and Counties
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is divided into different areas for local government. These are called Kreise (districts or counties). There are twelve rural districts and six independent urban districts.
