Andrew Ducat (born February 15, 1886 – died July 23, 1942) was a very special athlete from England. He was one of the few people who played for their country in both cricket and football. He played cricket for Surrey and football for teams like Woolwich Arsenal and Aston Villa. Sadly, he passed away while playing a cricket match at Lord's Cricket Ground.

Early Life of Andrew Ducat
Andrew Ducat was born in Brixton, London. He spent his childhood growing up in Southend. During the First World War, he joined the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1915. He served until 1919 when he was discharged.
Cricket Career Highlights
Ducat started his cricket journey at The Oval in 1906. He quickly became a key player for the Surrey county team. He played alongside famous cricketers like Jack Hobbs.
He was known as a strong batsman. He scored 52 centuries (100 runs or more) for Surrey. One amazing game was in 1919, where he scored 306 runs without being out! This was against Oxford University.
In 1920, he was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year. This is a big award in cricket. Andrew faced some injuries during his career. A broken leg in 1912 nearly stopped him from playing. He also missed the 1924 season due to a broken arm.
He only played in one Test match for England. This was against Australia in 1921. He didn't score many runs in that match.
Football Career Highlights
Andrew Ducat also had a great career in football. He started playing for a local team, Southend Athletic. Then, in 1905, he joined Woolwich Arsenal.
He played his first game for Arsenal in February 1905. He started as a centre forward. Later, he moved to play as a right half. He became a regular player for Arsenal.
While at Arsenal, he played three times for the England national team. His first game for England was in February 1910 against Ireland. England won that game 6-1. In his second game for England, he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Wales.
In 1912, he moved to Aston Villa for £1,000. This was a lot of money back then! He became a very important player for Villa. He even captained the team to win the FA Cup in 1920. They beat Huddersfield Town in the final.
He played three more times for England in 1920. This brought his total England appearances to six. In 1921, he joined Fulham. After he stopped playing in 1924, he became the manager for Fulham. He managed the team for two seasons before leaving in 1926.
Personal Life
Andrew Ducat married Vera Barbour on June 20, 1914. Vera was the daughter of Horace Barbour, who also played football for Aston Villa. They had one daughter together.
Later Life and Passing
After he stopped playing cricket in 1931, Ducat became a cricket coach. He coached at Eton College, a famous school. He also worked as a sports reporter for a newspaper called the Daily Sketch.
Andrew Ducat passed away suddenly in 1942. He was playing in a cricket match at Lord's Cricket Ground. This match was part of a wartime series during the Second World War. He was playing for his Home Guard unit. He was 56 years old. The match was stopped out of respect for him. He is the only person known to have passed away while playing a match at Lord's.
