Angelica is a small village located in Allegany County, New York, United States. It's part of the larger town of Angelica. In 2020, about 723 people lived there.
Both the village and the town are named after Angelica Schuyler Church. She was the daughter of General Philip Schuyler. She was also the sister-in-law of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

History of Angelica Village
The area where Angelica is located was first settled in 1802. The village of Angelica was officially formed in 1835. For a time, Angelica was the main center for the county government. This means it was the "county seat" where important county offices were located. Later, the county government moved to Belmont.
A man named Philip Church founded the village. He was the nephew of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. Philip Church inherited a large piece of land in New York. He decided to name the new town Angelica, in honor of his mother. In 1830, the population of Angelica was around 998 people.
Two important historical places in Angelica are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Old Allegany County Courthouse was added in 1972. The Angelica Park Circle Historic District was added in 1978. These listings help protect their historical importance.
Geography and Surroundings
Angelica village is located in the middle of the town of Angelica. It sits in a valley near Angelica Creek. This creek flows into the Genesee River. A major highway, the Southern Tier Expressway, runs through the southern part of the village. This highway is also known as Interstate 86 and New York State Route 17. You can get to Angelica from exit 31.
From Angelica, you can travel west about 31 miles (50 km) to Olean. Or you can go east about 62 miles (100 km) to Corning.
The village covers an area of about 2.15 square miles (5.57 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There is no water within the village limits.
The county fairgrounds are in the eastern part of Angelica. In the center of the village, there is a place called Park Circle. It even has a court for playing roque, which is a game similar to croquet. Angelica is known as the "Town where History Lives." Many antique shops are found here, attracting visitors from all over the state.
Angelica's Climate
Angelica has a type of climate called a humid continental climate. This means it has big changes in temperature throughout the year. Summers are warm to hot and often humid. Winters are cold, and sometimes very cold.

Education in Angelica
Students from Angelica attend Genesee Valley Central High School. This school is located in nearby Belmont. It was created in 1996 when the Angelica and Belmont school districts joined together.
