Her first book, Firekeeper's Daughter, is very popular. Time magazine called it one of the best young adult novels ever. It was also a New York Times best seller. The book won an Edgar Allan Poe Award in 2022. Her book will become a TV show by Higher Ground.

About Angeline Boulley
Her Life and Family
Angeline Boulley is a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Ojibwe name for this place is Bahweting. She went to Central Michigan University.
Her father is a traditional firekeeper. He starts special fires for tribal events. He also shares cultural teachings and stories around the fire.
Her Work in Education
Before becoming a full-time writer, Angeline Boulley worked in "Indian education." This means she helped improve schools and learning for Native American students. She worked at different levels:
- For her tribe, she was an Educational Director.
- She was on the Board of Regents at Bay Mills Community College.
- She also worked for the U.S. Department of Education. There, she was the Director for the Office of Indian Education.
Now, Boulley writes books full-time.
About Firekeeper's Daughter
Angeline Boulley's first novel, Firekeeper's Daughter, came out on March 16, 2021. It was published by Henry Holt and Co.. The book quickly became a New York Times best seller.
Awards and Recognition
Time magazine named Firekeeper's Daughter one of the top 100 young adult books of all time. It has won many important awards, including:
- The Michael L. Printz Award for young adult literature (2022)
- The Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Young Adult Novel (2022)
- The William C. Morris Award (2022)
- The American Indian Youth Literature Award Best Young Adult Honor (2022)
The book was also named an "Outstanding Merit" book by the Bank Street Children's Book Committee. It also won the Josette Frank Award in 2022.
TV Show Adaptation
Firekeeper's Daughter is being made into a TV show for Netflix. Higher Ground Productions, the company owned by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, is producing it.
