Anne Laurel Carter (born September 22, 1953) is a Canadian author. She has written many books, mostly for young adults and children. She is known for her stories that often explore important themes and adventures.

Anne Laurel Carter's Life and Journey
Early Life and Travels
Anne Laurel Carter was born in Don Mills, Ontario, Canada, on September 22, 1953. She was the youngest of four children. She started studying science at the University of Toronto. However, she decided to leave after her second year.
When she was 19, Anne traveled to Israel. She stayed there for about a year and a half. During this time, she learned Hebrew. She was in Israel during the Yom Kippur War. She met her first husband in Israel, and they later moved to California.
After California, the couple moved to Toronto. Anne continued her education there. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University. She also got a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.
Anne also spent time in a French immersion program. This took her to places like Trois Pistoles and Rivière-du-Loup in Quebec. She even studied in Grenoble, France.
Later, Anne taught English to students in northern Quebec. She worked in communities like Eastmain and Chisasibi. In 1984, she earned a Master of Education degree. This degree focused on learning second languages.
Becoming a Published Author
Anne began teaching in Peterborough. She later moved to Bramalea, a part of Brampton, Ontario. There, she continued teaching, got married, and had four children.
While teaching and raising her family, Anne started writing stories. She sent her stories to be published. In 1997, her story "No Missing Parts" won second prize in a contest. This contest was held by the Toronto Star newspaper.
The very next year, her story "Leaving the Iron Lung" also won second prize in the same contest. A new version of this story was later published. It even won the Vicky Metcalf Short Story Award. In 1999, Anne published her first book, Tall in the Saddle.
Today, Anne Laurel Carter teaches others how to write children's books. She teaches these courses privately and at the University of Toronto.
