Exploring Antelope's Location
Antelope covers an area of about 6.84 square miles (17.71 square kilometers). The land is mostly flat, with very few hills. There are no large bodies of water in the area.
The northern edge of Antelope is the border between Sacramento County and Placer County. Its eastern border generally follows Roseville Road. The southern border runs along Antelope Road. The western border follows 28th Street and then Dry Creek.
The community officially got its name and boundaries in 1993. This was done by a vote to help the area feel more like its own place. The Antelope, California, designation started on July 1, 1994. The main ZIP code for Antelope is 95843.
A Look at Antelope's Past
In the late 1800s, Antelope was the main settlement in its local area. Many railroad workers lived here and decided to stay. Over time, as workers moved away, Antelope became a smaller community with fewer businesses.
A major event happened on April 28, 1973. A train car carrying aircraft bombs exploded in the southern part of the Southern Pacific's Roseville Yard. This explosion destroyed the local general store and damaged many homes. This event changed Antelope a lot, as much of the small community was affected.
What we know as Antelope today largely started as a planned community in the late 1980s. It was built with many single-family homes and apartments. Because it's a newer community, most homes are modern, and the area is well-organized. The closure of nearby McClellan Air Force Base between 1993 and 2001 did slow down the economy in this area. Antelope officially received its own postmark and recognition as a community from the U.S. Postal Service on July 1, 1994.
