Antoinette de Bourbon was an important French noblewoman who lived a long time ago. She was known as the Duchess of Guise because she was married to Claude of Lorraine, the Duke of Guise. She was part of the famous House of Bourbon family.
Life of Antoinette
Antoinette de Bourbon was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1494. Her birthplace was the Chateau de Ham in France. Her parents were Francis, Count of Vendôme and Marie de Luxembourg.
People said Antoinette was a very special woman. She was proud of her family and had a good sense of humor. She was also very good at managing her home. She ran the large lands around their castle, Chateau de Joinville.
Antoinette had a big impact on her granddaughter, Mary, Queen of Scots. Mary lived in France for 13 years, and Antoinette was one of her main helpers and advisors. Antoinette even stood in for her daughter, Mary of Guise, during the engagement ceremony of Mary, Queen of Scots, to Dauphin Francis in 1558.
Antoinette de Bourbon died on January 22, 1583, at the Chateau de Joinville. She was 88 years old. She lived longer than almost all of her children. Only her daughter Renée, who was an Abbess, outlived her.
