Antonio Gibson was born on June 23, 1998. He is an American professional football player. He plays as a running back and kickoff returner for the New England Patriots. This team is part of the National Football League (NFL).
Before joining the NFL, Antonio played college football. He spent two years at East Central Community College. Then, he transferred to Memphis in 2018. At Memphis, he was a return specialist and wide receiver. In 2019, he was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Special Teams Player of the Year. He also received special honors for both positions.
Antonio Gibson was chosen by the Washington Football Team in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft. He played four seasons with them.

Early Life and High School Football
Antonio Gibson grew up in McDonough, Georgia. He went to Eagle's Landing High School. There, he was a star athlete. He played football, basketball, and was on the track team. In his final year of high school, he was named the best offensive player by the Henry Daily Herald newspaper.
College Football Journey
Antonio started his college football career in 2016. He played for East Central Community College. After two years, he moved to the University of Memphis in 2018.
At East Central, he caught 50 passes for 871 yards. He also scored 13 touchdowns. He returned 27 kicks for 554 yards. He also ran for 249 yards.
At Memphis, he played both wide receiver and running back. In his two years there, he caught 44 passes for 834 yards. He scored 10 touchdowns. He also ran for 369 yards and four touchdowns. Plus, he had 647 return yards and one touchdown.
In 2019, he was recognized as the AAC Special Teams Player of the Year. The AAC is the American Athletic Conference. He was also named to the first-team all-AAC as a return specialist. He made the second-team as a wide receiver. This was a big achievement. He was only the fourth player in the conference's history to get honors in two different positions.
Antonio Gibson's NFL Career
Antonio Gibson entered the 2020 NFL draft as a running back. The Washington Redskins picked him in the third round. He was the 66th player chosen overall. The team liked that he could play many different positions. He signed his first professional contract on July 22, 2020.
First Season with Washington (2020)

Antonio scored his first NFL touchdown in Week 2. It was an 11-yard run against the Arizona Cardinals. In Week 4, he had 128 total yards and a rushing touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens.
He had his first game with over 100 rushing yards in Week 7. He ran for 128 yards and a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
On Thanksgiving, he played the Cowboys again. He ran for 115 yards and scored three touchdowns. Washington won the game 41–16. He was the first rookie since 1998 to score three touchdowns on Thanksgiving. He was also the first running back since 1997 to rush for over 100 yards and three touchdowns on Thanksgiving. He was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for his amazing performance.
Later that season, he got a turf toe injury. He missed one game because of it. Antonio finished his first season leading all rookies in rushing touchdowns with 11. He was also the first Washington rookie since 2012 to get 1,000 yards from scrimmage.
Second Season (2021)
In Week 3 of the 2021 season, Antonio caught a pass and ran 73 yards for a touchdown. This play was against the Buffalo Bills. It was the second-longest touchdown catch by a Washington running back ever.
The next week, he ran for 63 yards and scored a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. This game helped him reach over 1,000 career rushing yards. He became only the third Washington player to get 1,000 rushing yards in his first two seasons.
In Week 12, on Monday Night Football, he ran for 111 yards against the Seattle Seahawks. This was his first game with over 100 rushing yards that season. Near the end of 2021, he was placed on the team's COVID-19 list. He missed one game but returned in January 2022.
Third Season (2022)

Before the 2022 season, Antonio was named the team's new kick returner. He also returned to being the starting running back for a while. This happened after another player, Brian Robinson Jr., was injured.
In Week 7, Washington played the Green Bay Packers. Antonio ran for 59 yards. He also caught three passes for 18 yards and scored a receiving touchdown. This touchdown was the 3,000th in the team's history. The football from that play is now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Antonio finished the 2022 season with 546 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 46 passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns.
Fourth Season (2023)
In the 2023 season, Antonio Gibson ran for 265 yards and one touchdown. He also caught 48 passes for 389 yards and two touchdowns.
Joining the New England Patriots (2024)
On March 14, 2024, Antonio Gibson signed a three-year contract with the New England Patriots. He played his first season with them in 2024. He ran for 538 yards and one touchdown. He also caught 23 passes for 206 yards.
