Aquafina is a popular brand of bottled water. It is made by a company called PepsiCo. Aquafina sells both plain water and water with flavors.
The first Aquafina water was sold in Wichita, Kansas, in 1994. Since then, it has become very popular. You can find Aquafina in many countries, like the United States, Canada, Spain, Peru, Turkey, and India. In 2009, Aquafina was the number one bottled water brand sold in the United States.
What Kinds of Aquafina Water Are There?
Aquafina Pure Water is the main type of water they sell. This water starts as regular tap water from public sources. It then goes through a special cleaning process. This process uses methods like reverse osmosis, ultraviolet light, and ozone. These steps help make the water very clean.
Since 2007, every bottle of Aquafina has a note saying the water comes from a "public source." This helps people know where the water comes from.
Aquafina also makes flavored waters. These are called Aquafina FlavorSplash. They have no calories or carbohydrates. FlavorSplash waters are not fizzy and are sweetened with a sugar substitute called Sucralose. Some of the flavors include Grape, Strawberry Kiwi, Wild Berry, and Raspberry.
There used to be other types of Aquafina, like Aquafina Sparkling (fizzy water) and Aquafina Alive (water with vitamins). These are no longer sold in the U.S. but might still be available in other countries.
Aquafina Bottles and the Environment
Aquafina water comes in many different bottle sizes. You can find them in small 12-ounce bottles or larger 1.5-liter bottles.
Making and shipping plastic bottles uses a lot of resources. To help the environment, Aquafina changed its bottle design in 2009. They made the bottles much lighter, cutting their weight by about half. This change meant they used 75 million fewer pounds of plastic!
Aquafina and Sports
Aquafina often sponsors sports teams and events. It has been an official sponsor for Major League Soccer and the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA).
Since 2008, Aquafina has been the "official water of Major League Baseball" (MLB). In NASCAR racing, Aquafina sponsors Hendrick Motorsports and driver Kasey Kahne.
