Arbaz is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Sion district, which is part of the canton of Valais.

History of Arbaz
Arbaz was first written about around the year 1185. Back then, it was known by the name Alba. Later, in 1338, it was mentioned as Arba.
For a long time, until 1877, Arbaz was actually part of another municipality called Ayent. In 1924, a big fire damaged parts of the village. But the people of Arbaz worked hard to rebuild it.
Geography of Arbaz
Arbaz covers an area of about 19.3 square kilometers (about 7.5 square miles). A good part of this land is covered by forests. About a quarter of the area is forested, which means lots of trees!
Around 22% of the land is used for farming. This includes fields for crops and pastures where animals graze. A small part, about 5%, has buildings and roads. The rest of the land is mostly rocky or has plants that don't grow well for farming.
Arbaz is located in the Sion district. It sits at a height of about 830 to 2886 meters (2,723 to 9,469 feet) above sea level. This means it's quite high up in the mountains! The town is on the north side of the Rhône River.
Interestingly, almost half of the houses in Arbaz are vacation homes. This means many people come here for holidays.

Most people in Arbaz speak French as their main language. About 90.9% of the population speaks French. The next most common language is German, spoken by about 5% of the people. A smaller number of people speak Portuguese or Italian.
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males and females. About 49.8% were male and 50.2% were female. Most of the people living in Arbaz were born in Switzerland.
Many families live in Arbaz. In 2000, there were 322 households, with an average of 2.4 people per household. About 24.8% of the population were children and teenagers (under 19 years old). Adults (20-64 years old) made up 56.1%, and seniors (over 64 years old) were 19.1%.
