Grimisuat is a lovely town located in the Valais region of Switzerland. It's part of the Sion area. This charming municipality sits on the right side of the Rhone river.

History of Grimisuat
Grimisuat has a long history! It was first mentioned over 900 years ago, sometime between the years 1001 and 1100. Back then, it was known by a slightly different name, Grimisoch. There was also an very old name, Grimslen, but it's not used anymore.
Geography and Landscape
Grimisuat covers an area of about 4.4 square kilometers (1.7 square miles). A big part of this land, almost half (47.3%), is used for farming. This includes fields for crops, pastures for animals, and areas for orchards and vineyards.
About 22.3% of Grimisuat is covered by forests. These are important natural areas. The town itself, with its buildings and roads, makes up about 27.7% of the land. A small part (0.9%) is rivers or lakes, and 2.0% is land that isn't used for anything.
Grimisuat is located in the Sion district. It's on the right bank of the Rhone river. The municipality includes the main village of Grimisuat and two smaller communities called Comera and Les Combes.

A coat of arms is like a special symbol or emblem for a town or family. Grimisuat's coat of arms has a red background. On it, you can see a silver fleur-de-lis, which is a fancy lily symbol. Above the fleur-de-lis, there are two golden six-pointed stars.
Population and People
Grimisuat is home to about 3,800 people (as of 2022). Over the past ten years, the population has grown quite a bit, by about 23.6%. This growth is due to people moving into the town and also from new births.
Most people in Grimisuat speak French as their main language (about 91.3%). German is the second most common language, spoken by about 4.1% of the population. A smaller number of people speak Portuguese (1.8%) or Italian.
In 2008, a little more than half of the population (51.5%) were male, and 48.5% were female. Most residents were Swiss citizens. About 40.6% of the people living in Grimisuat in 2000 were actually born there.
The population includes many young people! Children and teenagers (up to 19 years old) make up about 27.4% of the population. Adults (20-64 years old) are 58.3%, and seniors (over 64) are 14.3%.
In 2000, there were 834 households in Grimisuat. On average, there were 2.6 people living in each home. Most apartments (85.9%) were lived in all year round.

Grimisuat has a local library called the Bibliothèque/Médiathèque Communale. In 2008, this library had over 11,700 books and other media. It loaned out more than 28,000 items that year! The library was open 182 days a year, for about 12 hours each week.
