The Archbald Pothole
The pothole formed about 15,000 years ago during the Wisconsin Glacial Period. This was a time when large sheets of ice, called glaciers, covered much of the Earth. The pothole is 38 feet (12 meters) deep and has an oval shape. It is wider at the top, measuring 42 feet (13 meters) by 24 feet (7.3 meters). At the bottom, it is 17 feet (5.2 meters) by 14 feet (4.3 meters). This giant hole could hold about 140,000 gallons of water!
