The Arica Province (which is Provincia de Arica in Spanish) is a part of Chile. It is located in the very north of the country. This province belongs to the Arica and Parinacota Region, which is the newest and most northern of Chile's regions. The main city and capital of the Arica Province is Arica, a busy port city.

Geography of Arica Province
Arica Province is located right on the coast, next to the Pacific Ocean. The province covers a large area of about 8,726 square kilometers (about 3,369 square miles).
The Arica Province shares its borders with several places. To the north, it's next to the Tacna province in Peru. To the south, it borders the Tamarugal province. To the east, you'll find the Parinacota province. And to the west, it's the vast Pacific Ocean.

Population in Arica Province
According to the last national census in 2002, there were 186,488 people living in Arica Province. This included 91,742 men and 93,526 women. This means there were about 21.4 people living in each square kilometer.
The biggest city in the province is Arica, which is also its capital. In 2002, Arica city had a population of 175,441 people.
How Arica Province is Managed
Arica is a province, which is a type of second-level administrative division in Chile. It is made up of two smaller areas called comunas (communes). These are Arica in the northern part and Camarones in the south.
