History of Apt Arrondissement
When the Vaucluse department was first created in 1793, the Apt arrondissement was one of its original parts. For a short time in 1926, its main office (called a subprefecture) moved to a town called Cavaillon. But don't worry, it moved back to Apt in 1933!
Geography of Apt Arrondissement
The Apt arrondissement is in the southern part of the Vaucluse department. It shares borders with other departments like Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to the east. It also borders Bouches-du-Rhône to the south and west. To the northwest, it's next to the Avignon arrondissement. The Carpentras arrondissement is to its north.
This arrondissement is the largest in the Vaucluse department by land area. It covers about 1,377 square kilometers (532 square miles). Even though it's the biggest in size, it has the fewest people living in it. In 2014, about 128,448 people lived here. This means it's not very crowded, with about 93 people per square kilometer.
