The Ardèche département was created a long time ago, on 4 March 1790. The Arrondissement of Largentière was one of the first parts of this new département right from the start.
Geography of Largentière
The Arrondissement of Largentière is located in the southern part of the Ardèche département. It shares borders with other areas:
- To the north, it's next to the Arrondissement of Tournon-sur-Rhône.
- To the northeast and east, it borders the Arrondissement of Privas.
- To the south, it touches the Gard département.
- To the southwest, it's next to the Lozère département.
- To the west, it borders the Haute-Loire département.
Largentière is the largest and most southern of the arrondissements in the Ardèche département. It covers a big area of about 2,511.3 square kilometers (970 square miles). In 2014, about 98,821 people lived here. This means it had a population density of about 39.3 people per square kilometer.
