History of Privas Arrondissement
The Ardèche department was created a long time ago, on March 4, 1790. When it was first set up, the Privas area was already an important part of it.
Geography of Privas Arrondissement
The Privas area is located in the southeast part of the Ardèche department. It shares borders with other areas. To the north, it's next to the Arrondissement of Tournon-sur-Rhône. To the east, you'll find the Drôme department. The Vaucluse department is to its southeast. To the south, it borders the Gard department, and to the west, it's next to the Arrondissement of Largentière.
This area is the smallest of the districts in the Ardèche department. It covers about 1,159.4 square kilometers (447.6 square miles). In 2014, about 87,774 people lived here. This means there were about 75.7 people living in each square kilometer.
