History
The Arrondissement of Nyons was created on February 17, 1800. It has always been part of the Drôme department since then.
Geography
The Arrondissement of Nyons is the most southern part of the Drôme department. It even has a small piece of the Vaucluse department inside it, like an enclave. An enclave is a territory completely surrounded by another territory.
Nyons is the largest arrondissement in the Drôme department. It covers an area of about 2,358.7 square kilometers (910.7 square miles). It is the second most populated arrondissement in the department. In 2014, about 141,971 people lived there. This means it has a population density of about 61.9 people per square kilometer. The Arrondissement of Nyons shares borders with several other areas:
