Asakuchi (浅口市, Asakuchi-shi) is a city located in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. As of early 2023, about 33,322 people live there. The city covers an area of about 66 square kilometers (25 square miles). Asakuchi is also home to the main center of the Konkokyo religion.

Discovering Asakuchi's Location
Asakuchi is in the southwest part of Okayama Prefecture. It is next to the Seto Inland Sea in the south. The city has many hills and mountains. Some of these include Mount Yosho, Mount Chikurinji, Mount Abe, and Mount Ryuo.
The southern part of Asakuchi is close to two important industrial areas. These are the Mizushima area and the Fukuyama area.

A Look at Asakuchi's Past
The area where Asakuchi is today has been lived in for a very long time. Scientists have found ancient shell middens, which are piles of shells left by people from the Jōmon period. This shows people lived here thousands of years ago.
In 1889, two villages called Kamogata and Yorishima were created. Later, in the early 1900s, both became towns. In 2006, these two towns joined with another town called Konkō. Together, they formed the new city of Asakuchi.

Asakuchi is an important center for business in its region. Its economy is a mix of farming and light manufacturing. Many people who live in Asakuchi also travel to work in nearby cities like Fukuyama and Kurashiki.
