Ashburn's Interesting History

Ashburn was first called "Farmwell." This name came from a large home owned by George Lee III. The name "Farmwell" was first written down in 1802. It described a big farm that George Lee III inherited.

Later, in 1841, a lawyer named John Janney bought part of this farm as a summer home. He was a Quaker and almost became Vice President of the United States. Janney named his property "Ashburn Farm." He probably named it after friends of his family who had the last name Ashburn.
