About Ashmont

Ashmont is surrounded by many beautiful lakes. These include Upper Mann Lake, Batty Lake, Lottie Lake, Floatingstone Lake, and Garner Lake. Many provincial recreation areas are set up along the shores of these lakes. These areas are great for outdoor activities.

A Look Back in Time

The community of Ashmont was named by one of its first settlers. He named it after his home in Ashmont, Boston, a neighborhood in the United States. Ashmont started as a farming community in the early 1900s.

At its busiest, around the 1960s, Ashmont was a lively place. It had a grain elevator, which is a tall building for storing grain. There were also four general stores where people could buy almost anything. The hamlet also had a pool hall, a Legion Hall, and two gas stations. A school served students from kindergarten to grade 12.

Today, Ashmont is much quieter. Like many small rural communities, it has changed over time. Only one store remains open. This store is important for the people living near the lakes and for the local school. The school is still relatively large, teaching students from kindergarten all the way to grade 12.

Who Lives Here?

In 2021, a count of the population was done by Statistics Canada. This count showed that Ashmont had 125 people living there. These people lived in 51 of the 59 available homes.

This number was a small change from 2016. In 2016, Ashmont had 133 people. The land area of Ashmont is about 1.11 square kilometers (0.43 square miles). This means that in 2021, there were about 112 people living in each square kilometer.
