Ashutosh Dnyaneshwar Agashe (born 21 October 1972) is an Indian cricket player and a successful businessman. He played cricket for the Maharashtra cricket team in the Ranji Trophy from 1996 to 1999. Since 1996, he has also been a managing director at Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate Ltd., a company involved in various industries.
Biography
Early Life and Education
Ashutosh Agashe was born in Pune, Maharashtra, India, on 21 October 1972. His father was Dnyaneshwar Agashe, an industrialist, and his mother was Rekha Gogte.
He comes from a family with a history in business and other fields. For example, his grandfather was Chandrashekhar Agashe, and his family is distantly related to famous people like the general Bapu Gokhale and the musician Ashutosh Phatak.
Ashutosh Agashe studied at the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce. He earned a B.Com degree there. While in college, he was also a part of the college's cricket team. In 1997, he married Shalini Phadke.
Cricket Career
Ashutosh Agashe started his professional cricket career in 1996. He played both first-class and List A matches. He was a right-hand bat player and bowled right-arm medium pace.
From 1997 to 1999, he played for his home state team, Maharashtra, in the Ranji Trophy. He was chosen for a four-day Ranji Trophy match by the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) in 1998. In 1999, he also played for the Belfast Cricket League in Derry, Ireland. He stopped playing List A cricket in 2000.
Business Career
Ashutosh Agashe began his business journey as a director at Brima Finance in 1994. In 1996, he joined his father on the board of directors at the Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate Ltd..
Under his leadership, the syndicate expanded its business activities.
- In 1998, they started selling ayurvedic medicines and health products.
- They also began making food products and veterinary medicine.
- By 2000, they were promoting ayurvedic skincare products from their sister company, Brihans Natural Products Ltd.
- By 2002, they were producing alcohol-based chemicals.
In September 2000, he became a joint managing director of the syndicate.
In 2003, he was appointed as a selector at the Maharashtra Cricket Association. He also served as the chairman of Suvarna Sahakari Bank from 2004 to 2005. In 2005, the syndicate partnered with Howling Wolves Wine Group from Australia to produce wine in India.
In 2007, he received the DSK Group Energy Award for his work in improving energy efficiency in businesses.
Since 2009, Ashutosh Agashe has been a director at Agashe Brothers Financing Company. In August 2009, he was appointed chairman and managing director of the Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate.
In 2015, he created the Dnyaneshwar Agashe Trophy. This award is given at the Poona Youth Club's annual cricket tournament, the PYC Premier League, to honor his father. In May 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic in India, Ashutosh Agashe helped by donating oxygen concentrators to hospitals in Shreepur, Maharashtra.
