Ashutosh Agashe (born 21 October 1972) is an Indian businessman and a former cricketer. He is the chairman and managing director of the Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate Ltd.. He took on this role in August 2009, following in his father's footsteps.

Before his business career, Ashutosh Agashe was a talented cricketer. He played first-class and List A matches for the Maharashtra cricket team from 1996 to 1999. In 1999, he also played in the Belfast Cricket League in Derry. Later, in 2003, he briefly served as a selector for the Maharashtra Cricket Association, helping choose players for the team.

Early Life and Education

Ashutosh Agashe was born in Pune, Maharashtra, India on 21 October 1972. He comes from a family with a history in business and industry. His father was Dnyaneshwar Agashe and his mother is Rekha Gogte.

He earned a B.Com degree from the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce. While studying there, he was an active member of the college's cricket team. In 1997, he married Shalini Phadke.

Cricket Career Highlights

Ashutosh Agashe started his cricket career in 1996. He was known for his right-hand bat style and his right-arm medium bowling.

From 1997 to 1999, he played for his home state, Maharashtra, as part of the Maharashtra cricket team. He played in the Ranji Trophy, which is a major first-class cricket competition in India. In November 1999, he even captained the team in his debut match against the Mumbai cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium.

In 1999, Agashe also played for Creevedonnell Cricket Club in Derry, as part of the Belfast Cricket League. He stopped playing List A cricket in 2000. He is remembered as one of the notable cricketers from Pune who played for the Maharashtra team and is a lifetime member of the Maharashtra Cricket Association.

Business Journey

Ashutosh Agashe began his business career in 1994 as a director at Brima Finance. In 1996, he joined the board of directors at the Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate Ltd., working alongside his father.

Under their leadership, the syndicate expanded its business. By 1998, they started selling ayurvedic medicines and health products. They also began making food products and veterinary medicine. In 2000, they promoted skincare products from their sister company, Brihans Natural Products, and by 2002, they were making alcohol-based chemicals.

In September 2000, Agashe became a joint managing director of the syndicate. In 2003, he was involved in selecting players for the Maharashtra Cricket Association. He also supported the publishing of a book about Mahavira and other Jain spiritual leaders.

By 2004, Agashe was also helping manage parts of the Suvarna Sahakari Bank. In 2005, the syndicate, under Agashe's leadership, partnered with an Australian wine company to set up wine production in India. Between 2004 and 2005, he was elected as the chairman of Suvarna Sahakari Bank. The bank later faced difficulties and was merged with the Indian Overseas Bank in May 2009.

Since 2009, Ashutosh Agashe has been a director at Agashe Brothers Financing Company and, since 2010, at Baumgarten and Wallia. In August 2009, he was appointed chairman and managing director of the Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate.

In 2015, he created the Dnyaneshwar Agashe Trophy. This is the highest award at the Poona Young Cricketers Hindu Gymkhana's annual cricket tournament, the PYC Premier League, and it honors his father. In February 2019, he even played in the Poona Club Premier League again.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in India in May 2021, Agashe donated oxygen concentrators to hospitals in Shreepur, Maharashtra, to help those in need. More recently, in July 2024, he owned a chess team for a chess league at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana. In December 2024, he also owned a tennis team for the gymkhana's tennis tournament. This same team went on to play table tennis, tennis, and badminton in the gymkhana's racquet sport league in March 2025.
