Auw is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Muri district of Aargau canton in Switzerland. It is nestled at the foot of the Lindenberg mountain.

Auw's Past: A Look at Its History
People first lived in the Auw area a very long time ago. We know this because old burial urns from the Roman times were found here.
The town of Auw was first written about in history books in the year 924. Back then, it was called Houva. Later, in 1306, its name changed to Owe. Important landowners in Auw included the Muri and Engelberg Abbeys.
In 1715, a big fire sadly destroyed 43 buildings in Auw. The first schoolhouse was built in 1809. It was later replaced by a new building in 1954.
The Church in Auw
The church in Auw started as a smaller church connected to the main church in Sins. In 1638, Auw got its own local church parish. The St. Nicholas Church was built in 1705. It replaced an older chapel that had been there since 1331.
