Avon is a friendly city in Stearns County, Minnesota, in the United States. It's a part of the larger St. Cloud area. In 2010, about 1,396 people lived here. By 2020, the population grew to 1,618.

A Look Back: Avon's History
Avon was started in 1873. It was named after the River Avon in England. A post office opened in Avon the same year. The town officially became a city in 1900. In 1992, Avon grew even more, expanding past the local "Spunk Lakes."

Fun Things to Do in Avon
Yearly Events
Avon is special because it has three lakes within its city limits: Upper Spunk, Middle Spunk, and Lower Spunk Lake. The word "spunk" means material used to start a fire. Settlers used to collect this material in the area.
To celebrate these lakes, Avon hosts an annual event called "Spunktacular Days," or "Spunk Days" for short. There are actually eight lakes in total within the city of Avon.
Since 2008, the Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon runs through Avon every May. Many volunteers help out by cheering on runners and handing out water.
Local Sports Teams
Avon has its own baseball team called the Avon Lakers. They are part of the Amateur Baseball Victory League. The team started in 1979. The Avon Lions Club helped build their baseball park.

A new soccer team, the Albany Minnesota Soccer Club, started in Avon in 2024. In their first season, they had a good record of 6 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties. They plan to create a varsity program soon.

- Alphonsus Augustus Sowada (1933–2014) was born in Avon. He became a Roman Catholic Bishop.
