Where Was Baird Located?

Baird appeared on a map of Douglas County in 1909. It was situated about 7 miles (11 km) west of Coulee City. The town was built on high ground. This area is found between two large valleys: Moses Coulee and Grand Coulee.

How Baird Got Its Name

Baird had its own post office. This post office opened in 1896. It stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1934. The town was named after an early postmaster. His name was James Baird. He played an important role in the community.
