Coulee City is a small town in Grant County, Washington. It's located in the central part of the state. In 2020, about 549 people lived there. This town is known for its connection to the amazing Grand Coulee area.

History of Coulee City
Before it was called Coulee City, this area was known as McEntee’s Crossing. This was in the 1800s. Philip McEntee built the first log cabin here in 1881. He helped surveyors who were planning a new road. Other early settlers soon came to the area.
The town got its name from the nearby Grand Coulee. This is a large, dry canyon. Coulee City officially became a town on May 10, 1907.
Where is Coulee City?
Coulee City is located at 47.611942 degrees North and 119.290904 degrees West. It sits on the southern edge of Banks Lake. Banks Lake is a huge man-made lake. It stretches for 27 miles all the way to the Grand Coulee Dam.
Water from Banks Lake enters a system of canals near Coulee City. These canals help bring water to farms across the Columbia Basin Project. This includes water flowing to Billy Clapp Lake to the south.
Just two miles southwest of town is Dry Falls. This place was once a giant waterfall. It was formed by massive floods long, long ago.
Several main roads pass through Coulee City. U.S. Route 2 goes through the town from west to east. It crosses State Route 17, which runs north and south. State Route 155 starts just east of town. It connects Coulee City to the Grand Coulee Dam and other towns to the northwest.
The United States Census Bureau says the town covers about 0.90 square miles (2.33 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
