Bald Eagle Creek (Little Juniata River tributary) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

For the Bald Eagle Creek in Centre County, Pennsylvania, see Bald Eagle Creek (West Branch Susquehanna River).

Bald Eagle Creek is a small but important tributary (a smaller stream that flows into a larger one) located in Blair County, Pennsylvania. It stretches about 9.4 miles (15.1 km) long. This creek flows southwest through a beautiful area known as the Bald Eagle Valley. It runs right at the base of the Bald Eagle Mountain ridge, eventually reaching the town of Tyrone.

What is Bald Eagle Creek?

Bald Eagle Creek is a natural waterway that joins the Little Juniata River. It's part of a larger watershed, which means all the land where water drains into this creek. The creek helps carry water from the mountains and valleys.

Two Bald Eagle Creeks?

It can be a bit confusing, but there are actually two creeks with very similar names! The Bald Eagle Creek we are talking about here is shorter. It flows south into the Little Juniata River.

The other, longer creek is called Bald Eagle Creek. This longer creek starts near the border of Blair County and Centre County. It flows north through the same valley. This longer creek eventually ends up in the West Branch Susquehanna River near Lock Haven. So, remember, one goes south, and one goes north!

The Railroad Connection

An important short line called the Nittany and Bald Eagle Railroad runs right alongside both Bald Eagle creeks. This railroad line follows the entire length of both creeks. Railroads often follow rivers and valleys because it's easier to build tracks on flatter land. This railway helps transport goods through the region.
