Bargeddie (/bɑːrˈɡɛdi/; Scottish Gaelic: Bàrr Geadaidh) is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located just outside Glasgow, about 8 miles (13 km) east of the city centre. The village is also close to the M73 and M8 motorways, making it easy to travel. The nearest big town is Coatbridge, which is only 2 miles (3 km) to the east.

History of Bargeddie

Bargeddie wasn't always a single village. Before the 1930s, this area was made up of smaller places like Bartonshill and Dykehead. Most people living there were coal miners.

The village started to grow in the 1930s. This was when Lanark County Council built new homes in an area called Dykehead. More houses were built in the 1950s, after World War II. Bargeddie continued to expand as part of the larger Glasgow area. New housing developments like Drumpellier Lawns and Burnside View were added over time.

Bargeddie Today

Today, Bargeddie is home to about 3,210 people. The village has two primary schools for younger students. These are Bargeddie Primary School and St. Kevins Primary School.

The Safety Zone is a popular community project. It is run by local volunteers and offers activities for people of all ages. There are also three shops in the village. A community centre, known as "The Windsor," is also located in Bargeddie. Close by, there is a Showcase Complex with a Hollywood Bowl and a Showcase Cinema.
