History of Bassett
Bassett was officially started in the year 1903. Just one year later, in 1904, the city got an extension of the Iola Electric Railroad. This was a streetcar line that helped people travel around. Something else cool happened in Bassett in 1914: the very first concrete road in all of Kansas was built right here!
Geography of Bassett
Bassett is located on the east side of the Neosho River. It's also on the south bank of Elm Creek, which is in Iola Township. The city is right next to the southern edge of Iola, which is the main town in the county. East of Bassett, you'll find a place called Lake Bassola. The city is also close to two major roads, U.S. Routes 54 and 169.
The United States Census Bureau says that Bassett covers a total area of about 0.09 square miles (0.25 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.06 square miles (0.17 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometers), is water.
